30 Years of Public Service... and counting.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! Early Voting begins October 19th, and Election day is November 3rd!
Please - get out there and vote!

My name is Otis Jordan Jr. and I have officially declared my candidacy for the City of Houston’s District D councilmember position. My record of public service proudly began more than 30 years ago, and continues even to this day.

Throughout my life I have always been a leader. Whether it has been as a student-athlete, as an officer in the United States Army, as a teacher/mentor to "at-risk" students, or most recently as President of the Houston Black Firefighters Association. I am running in the upcoming election, because I want to opportunity to put my leadership skills to work for the citizens of District D. Here now is a little more info about myself.

Immediately upon graduating from college (Texas Christian University) in 1978, I earned the honor of serving my country an officer in the United States Army Reserves in 1978. Having attained the rank of Captain, I soon thereafter began another career in public service as I joined the distinguished ranks of the Houston Fire Department. The next 30 years would see me risk life and limb for my fellow citizens time and again, but would also provide me with the courage and conviction to always stand up for right.

Anyone that has watched the news over the last year knows that change is overdue at City Hall. The current scandal involving the mistreatment of my two fellow firefighters has stained the reputation of a once grand Fire Department as well as the City Of Houston. It was this gross manner of injustice that fueled the flame inside me to fight the system from within. It is a simple fact that we need representation not hesitation and we need it now! My vow to you is that I will bring to City Hall the courage, character and conviction that has served me well over the last 50 years.

While fulfilling as my professional career has been, I am proud of the efforts that I’ve devoted to my personal life as well. I am a proud husband and father, and I firmly believe in giving back to the community. I am a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge F&AM of Texas. I have served as a volunteer for the following organizations: Big Brother and Big Sisters of Houston, the American Red Cross Advisory Board, and the Usher Board of Windsor Village United Methodist Church.

I want to close by thanking you for your time and your interest in me and my candidacy. I feel that I am without a doubt the most passionate and qualified candidate for the Council District D position. It is my hope that you connect with us in making a difference this November 3, not only for our district, but for all of Houston!
